Recognizing International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia 2022

May 17th is globally recognized as International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) – created to raise awareness of the daily discrimination, violence and inequality faced by LGBTQ people across the globe.  May 17th was chosen due to it’s significance with the World Health Organisation declassifying homosexuality as a mental disorder on the same date in 1990.

This year’s theme (2022) is Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights and reflects that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” – reminding us that everyone should have the right to make decisions about their bodies and their lives.

At Incubeta, we work to take conscious action to create a culture which supports our LGBTQ+ employees. No matter how big or small these initiatives, they are designed to make a difference within our workplace so all feel included and welcome. As a company we are constantly evaluating how we can contribute to positive change.

Some of the initiatives we’ve recently implemented include:

  1. Including our pronouns within our email signatures and personal profiles.
  2. Company-wide LGBTQ+ Speakers and Panels, including learning about Section 28 from Sue Sanders, understanding how you can be an Ally and celebrating the achievements of trans, non-binary and GNC individuals.
  3. An LGBTQ+ Network for LGBTQ+ employees to socialise, discuss and support each other (and have fun!)
  4. Establishing ‘Know and Grow’, a communication channel for sharing news, information and resources for education purposes across not just DEI subjects but also mental wellbeing and sustainability.
  5. Microaggression training for all employees with practical resources on how you can identify, de-escalate and respond to any micro-aggressions you witness in a way which protects individuals and educates initiators.
  6. Fundraising for LGBTQ+ charities and groups to ensure we are contributing both culturally and financially to change.
  7. Minimizing bias from our hiring process by using an anonymous, skills based platform Applied.

Worldwide we strive to create a safe, educational and open working environment for all our employees, maintaining a diverse and inclusive culture throughout the company.
